Trullos, as well as giving beauty, are our “ancestral memory”, as the roots, they connect the past with the present and invite us to look far, beyond, to the future!
The trullo are an example of ingenious architecture
Above all Trullos are, an example of spontaneous popolar architecture, they are believed to date back to XVI century, but spread when an order issued by the kingdom of Naples, forced the peasants to pay a tribute. So, to avoid taxes the people began to build homes with dry stones walling, and easy to demolish.
Built with thick and solid walls they are naturally anti-sismic, inside, the barrel vaults, stone floors and small windows ensure cooler temperature, and therefore they are a refuge during the summer.
Trullos are also, an excellent example of reuse and regeneration of rural areas, while their presence alone, offers a wise response to environmental problems, because they have always gave a vision of life in harmony with Nature.
I “Maestri Trullari“, still follow the ancient methods of rural architecture, but combine modern innovative methods that protects the environment, preserve the beauty and biodiversity of the territory. How?
With functional devises, in appearance are small details, like for example the presence of projecting cornices on the Trullos roof that ensures the collection of rainwater.
It is stored in special cisterns and used to irrigate the garden or for domestic purposes.
